Privacy Policy
Last updated
This Privacy Policy explains how the Dating Standards Calculator ("we", "us", or "the website") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit and use the site. We have written it to be clear rather than clever, and it reflects the principles of the European General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA). By using the website, you agree to the practices described here.
The short version
The calculator itself runs in your browser, so the preferences you enter are never sent to us. We collect only what you choose to send through the contact form, plus the basic technical data that every website records in its server logs. We do not sell your personal information. You can ask us to access or delete anything you have sent us at any time.
Information we collect
Calculator inputs
Your calculator answers stay on your device. The gender, age, height, income, and lifestyle preferences you enter are processed locally by JavaScript in your browser. They are never transmitted to our servers, stored in a database, or written to a log. When you close the tab, they are gone.
Contact form data
When you use the contact form, we collect the name, email address, subject, and message you provide, along with a hashed version of your IP address that we use to reduce spam. We keep this so we can read your message and reply to it.
Technical and usage data
Like almost every website, our servers automatically record standard log data when a page is requested. This can include your browser type, device type, referring page, and the time of the request. We use it for security, troubleshooting, and understanding aggregate traffic, and it is not used to identify you personally.
Cookies and similar technologies
Cookies are small text files stored on your device. We use as few as we reasonably can, and we group them into three types: essential cookies that keep the site working, analytics cookies that help us understand aggregate usage, and advertising cookies that our ad partners may set. You can control or delete cookies through your browser at any time. Our separate Cookie Policy explains each category in more detail.
Advertising and Google AdSense
We may display advertising through Google AdSense and other advertising networks to keep the site free. These partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites, and to measure how ads perform.
Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on our site. Its use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and others across the internet. You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting your Google Ads settings, and you can review your choices for many participating vendors through the Digital Advertising Alliance and the Your Online Choices pages. Where the law requires it, we ask for your consent before any advertising cookies are set.
Analytics
We may use privacy-respecting analytics to see which pages are popular and where visitors come from. Any analytics we use is configured to look at aggregate trends rather than to build a profile of you, and where the law requires it, analytics runs only after you consent.
How we use information
We use the limited information we hold to reply to your messages, to keep the site secure and running, to understand and improve how the site is used, and to meet our legal obligations. We do not use your contact details to send marketing unless you have asked us to.
Legal bases for processing (GDPR)
If you are in the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, we rely on the following legal bases. We rely on your consent for optional cookies and any marketing. We rely on our legitimate interests to keep the site secure and to understand aggregate usage. And we rely on compliance with a legal obligation where the law requires us to retain or disclose data.
Sharing and disclosure
We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with service providers who help us run the website, such as hosting and email delivery, and only to the extent they need it to perform that service. We may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety, and property of our users and the website.
Data retention
We keep contact form messages only as long as needed to handle your enquiry and any follow-up, after which they are deleted or anonymized. Server logs are kept for a short period for security and then discarded. We do not retain calculator inputs at all, because we never receive them.
Data security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect the information we hold against loss, misuse, and unauthorized access. No method of transmission over the internet is completely secure, so while we work to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.
International transfers
Our service providers may process data in countries outside your own, including the United States. Where personal data is transferred across borders, we rely on appropriate safeguards, such as standard contractual clauses, to protect it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have some or all of the following rights over your personal data:
- The right to know what personal data we hold about you and to request a copy.
- The right to correct data that is inaccurate or incomplete.
- The right to ask us to delete your data.
- The right to restrict or object to certain processing.
- The right to data portability.
- The right, under the CCPA, to opt out of the sale of personal information, which we do not do in any case.
- The right not to receive discriminatory treatment for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any right, reach us through the contact page. We will respond within the time the law allows, and we may need to verify your identity first.
Children's privacy
This website is intended for adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under the age of 16. If you believe a child has sent us personal data, contact us and we will delete it.
Do Not Track
Some browsers offer a Do Not Track signal. Because there is no common industry standard for how to respond to it, we do not currently change our behavior based on that signal, but we keep the amount of tracking on the site low by design.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as the website evolves or as the law changes. When we make a material change, we will revise the date shown at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after an update means you accept the revised policy.
Contact us
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, please reach us through the contact page. We take privacy questions seriously and will do our best to help.
