Height Percentile Calculator

Enter your height to see what share of US adults you stand taller than. The result uses the same measured CDC NHANES height distribution the calculator runs on, so it reflects a tape measure rather than self-reported profiles.

Your height percentile

49th

You are taller than about 49% of US men. Around 50.8% are taller than you, about 1 in 2.

How the height percentile is calculated

Adult height follows a normal distribution. For US men the mean is about 5 ft 9 in (175.4 cm) and for US women it is about 5 ft 3.5 in (161.5 cm). Your percentile is the share of that population who measure shorter than you. A percentile of 85 means you are taller than 85 percent of adults of that sex.

These figures come from CDC NHANES, which physically measures people. That matters because roughly a third of men report being 6 feet while only about 14.5 percent actually reach it. If your standard is set against dating profiles, the real supply is thinner than the apps suggest.

What the number means for dating

Height is one of the sharpest filters in a dating pool. Only about 1 in 7 US men clears 6 feet, so a six-foot minimum removes most of the field before any other filter applies. To see how a height bar combines with income, age, and other standards, run the female delusion calculator or the male delusion calculator, and read how the math works.

Frequently asked questions

What is a height percentile?

A height percentile is the share of a population who are shorter than you. If you are in the 90th percentile, you are taller than 90 percent of adults of that sex.

Is this height data measured or self-reported?

It is measured. The distribution comes from CDC NHANES, which stands people against a stadiometer rather than asking them, so it avoids the rounding and exaggeration common in dating profiles.

What percentage of men are 6 feet tall?

About 14.5 percent of US men reach 6 feet or taller, roughly 1 in 7. See the full breakdown in our guide on what percentage of men are 6 feet tall.

Does the calculator work for women?

Yes. Switch the sex toggle to see your percentile against the US female height distribution, which centers near 5 ft 3.5 in.

Is this based on US data or global data?

It uses US adult height data from CDC NHANES. Average height varies widely by country, so a US percentile will differ from a global one.

Why is my percentile different from a dating app estimate?

Dating apps show self-reported height, which skews taller than reality. This tool uses measured data, so the same height ranks differently than it would against inflated profile numbers.
