What inputs it takes
The calculator collects a short list of traits, each of which narrows the pool. You do not have to fill in every field. Leaving one blank simply means you are not filtering on it, so the pool stays wider. Here is what each input does.

Where the data comes from
The results are only as trustworthy as the population figures behind them, so the calculator leans on established government surveys rather than guesses or informal polls. Four sources do most of the work.
- US Census American Community Survey (ACS). This large annual survey supplies age structure, income distributions, education attainment, and marital status for the adult population.
- CDC NHANES. The National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey measures height and weight directly, which anchors the height filter and the body type calculation.
- Census CPS. The Current Population Survey adds detail on individual earnings and household characteristics.
- BLS. Bureau of Labor Statistics data helps frame earnings and employment patterns.

Why the filters are not simply multiplied
A common assumption is that you can find the matching share by multiplying each trait's frequency together. If 14.5 percent of men are tall and 18 percent earn six figures, you might guess that the first figure times the second, about 2.6 percent, are both. That math is wrong, because the traits are not independent. Taller men and higher earners overlap more than chance would predict, since height, age, income, and education all correlate with one another in the real population.
The size of that overlap matters a great deal once you stack several filters. A three-trait wish list treated as independent can look several times rarer than it truly is, which would hand back a score that punishes standards no one should feel bad about. Correcting for the clustering keeps the output honest in both directions: it will not flatter a wish list, but it also will not invent scarcity that the data does not support.

A delusion score is a statement about frequency, nothing more. It tells you how many people in the modeled population match the exact profile you described. That is genuinely useful for calibration. If you learn that your ideal partner is a 1-in-50 person, you can decide whether that rarity fits the size of your dating pool and the effort you are willing to put in.
Here is what the result does not claim. It says nothing about whether your standards are bad, shameful, or in need of lowering. It never ranks you or the people you are looking for by value. It does not predict whether any specific relationship will work, since compatibility, chemistry, and timing sit far outside anything a population survey can measure. And it stops at the national border of the data: the tool models the US population as a whole, so a figure that looks rare across the country may be more or less common in a particular city or age group.
